The GW Eco-Challenge is Here!

Today’s guest post is by Casey Pierzchala of GW’s Eco-Challenge Program.  Now is the time to start thinking about how your presence will impact GW!

eco-wordpressSo you’ve read Hot, Flat, and Crowded and learned all about Global Climate Change, but now what?  You’re starting classes here at GW and are wondering how to put your new knowledge about the environment to use.  Well, here’s your chance!

The GW Eco-Challenge is a contest designed to encourage students to reduce their own carbon footprints by conserving electricity and water.  Your hall is automatically entered into the contest which lasts the entire academic year.  So as you start bonding with your neighbors, start to think about how you can make a difference for the environment.

Here are a few conservation tips to get you started:

•    Bring a powerstrip for your room to easily turn off multiple electronics at once.
•    Choose an Energy Star computer or printer.
•    Report all leaks and repair requests through Fix-IT.

How are you preparing to be eco-friendly this year?  Share how you are going green in the comments section of this blog.

Check out the Eco-Challenge website for more information about the contest and tips on conservation and find us on Facebook!
